The Turtle Pokemon Complex (Inspirations and fears)

Let's face it the Squirtle evolution family is the best Turtle Pokemon out there, I mean yeah, you got your Shuckle, and your Torkoal, Your Turtwig family and your Tirtouga family, but fuck em, they were never as cool as the Squirtle line (Yes I am biased, but I will admit that the Turtwig family comes in second place)

Suck it Torkoal!

Squirtle came out in Gen I, now I'm not one of those people who think they should have stopped at 151, let's face it, that is a terrible way to make games, just have the same 151 critters fight each other for 10 years? No thank you, this is not 90's era WWF/WCW.  So they added more and more fun little deadly critters, (And I hope we all agree that generation III was the worst? I'm not saying it was terrible, but I am saying we don't have to invite it to the family reunion, no one really cares what it's been up to.) Now we are on gen V, and they have still yet to come up with a better Turtle Pokemon family.

I am a dick

Any way, what is the point of this nerd speak on a blog about writing? Well a friend of mine started a blog (http://anthonysierra.blogspot.com/) it's pretty great and I liked his format, he compares movie themes, characters and or scenes n junk to his life. So I thought I would steal it for a minute, for this post and possibly one more. I've been thinking alot recently about what influences/ed me in my writing(s). I think my love for comedy goes back to the crazy of adventures of two ladies.

We gonna fuck some shit up

I Love Lucy, also I love I Love Lucy. This show had so many memorable moments, I'm sure you are thinking of some now... if you aren't something is wrong with you. Just put in "I love Lucy" into a youtube search, and enjoy. I watched this show from an early age, and it has not lost it's funny since. And I grew up in the 90's, this was not an era devoid of the funny. It was, however full of things that thought they were funny. And people weren't looking at the 80's like they were the best thing to ever happen yet (Sorry, they just weren't). I sometimes think about Lucy, she got into all sorts of crazy shenanigans, from trying to host a radio show while one sleeping pills, to getting increasingly drunk while filming commercial, to motherhood, to getting in a fight while stomping grapes. She had it all, and did it all, sorry comedy ladies, you just aren't Lucille Ball, but it's cool, you don't have to be! more on that later. Next up:
As if you already didn't know

I think this is one TV show that had the most impact on my life, not because it changed me in any way that really affected me. it was just something that I always went back to, The Twilight Zone I can honestly say is one of the best shows on TV ever. I thing the thing about it that really inspires me is that it all came from the head of one man.

"Would you do me? I'd do me"

This man's brain child became a huge success, and he all did it as big fuck you, of sorts. He didn't like the way things were, he was a man with some commentary. But you couldn't really have in your face attitude about certain things. So what did he do? He wrote all of his commentary into science fiction. "Well clearly all these aliens and robots are just ass holes" someone must have thought. But in reality we, humans, are the assholes.  So he wrote a pilot, which wasn't really liked by tv execs, then someone else put it on stage a year later, it was a hit, and Serling got to make his show (huzzah!) And the rest is history, amazing amazing history. I really just want to put a billion pictures from iconic episodes, but I will resist. But I will say that not only was I inspired by this show i was inspired by this man, he wrote something like 92 of the episodes himself. Almost 60% of the episodes for five seasons were written by one man... so yeah, I look up to him. The influence of The Twilight Zone is probably the most recognizable, what with Mr. Moral essentially being a Serling double, but hey they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Next the reason I love Skits and Skit shows so much:

oh the memories...

I grew up on skits shows apparently. I also remember one called Culture Clash, that I cannot find anywhere, but it existed! It was essentially a Latino skit show (Fuck you carlos mencia) I think growing up watching all of these really came in handy when writing for Shots of Sketch it was in my blood, or at least my brain. Every show had it's great moments and characters, I quote most of them still. And I always enjoy introducing people to lovely world of In Living Color. And of course everyone had their own Ms Swan or Stuart. Oh and the SNL I'm talking about is 90's era. That is when i most watched it, but I am getting back into it now, thankfully they got rid of that jackass jimmy fallon. Now let's go back to that Pokemon talk:

They never topped the Gen I Turtle. I think my big fear is, what if that's me, what if I'm that shitty Tirtouga?  That guys a dick. I'm not saying I want to be better than Rod Serling, Lucille Ball, any of the numerous people who came before me. But what if I'm not even on par? What if I think something is funny, but I'm the only one laughing, what if i end up like Tommy Wiseau? I try to write something meaningful, or not even that, just I want to write something good, and the minute it starts people hate it, they laugh at me, not with me. I mean yeah everyone gets criticism, you can't please em all, shit you can't please most. I think for me I want to try to be me, and that someday i will be my own thing, my own Squirtle and those who follow will be the Shuckles and Torkoals. I hope the nerdism haven't driven you away yet. Also this article has not even began to touch on my gallows humor. Writing things from PAF: Phantom Aborted Fetuses, to the horrible memory/sound cue for Jebbie Dones. hopefully I'm offensive enough to be funny and make sense, i hate offensive things for the sake of being offensive. It's just dumb, it's not even cheap, it's just insulting. I just hope that my comedy is something that is funny and disturbing at the same time, and that people get it. So far for the most part I think people have. Only time will tell.I guess my fear is that I try to make it as a writer and I just end up writing fights for jersey shore?

Of course this is just the tip of the iceberg in what makes my writing me, and what inspires me. But it's a start, and definitely the earliest examples. Sort of me as a kid and young person. Another time I will discuss more recent things that have inspired my writing. (Most importantly some other funny ladies that don't have to be Lucille Ball.) Hope you enjoyed this, and maybe in the future I will do more like it about various other topics, but for now I'm excited for some new writing that I plan on doing and actually filming for fun (nothing fancy, calm down) I just have to get around to actually writing stuff for it. Once the first one is done I'll put it up here, and maybe even see if anyone else would be interested in being apart this new mini project/skits
